The main benefits we have derived from sending delegates on the course is that we now have a bank of employees with an awareness of the dangers of working in the vicinity of overhead power lines, but are also able to devise safe systems of work for basic situation. Other advantages include: that we can measure the height of conductors with our Suparules; will report instances of conductors below the statutory heights to the DNO; and can advise our DLO staff in emergency situations.
Gardiners have the building maintenance contract for Shropshire and the West Midlands for Severn Trent Water and often need overhead powerlines (OHPL) guidance for the sites we cover.

On behalf of the Highway Safety Officers Group I would like to thank SHOC for the very informative presentation they delivered to a seminar audience at the West Midlands HAUC/HSOG Roadshow on 10/11 September 2013 at Wolverhampton Racecourse. The annual roadshow attracted approximately 1,200 people during the two days with over 60 exhibitors displaying and demonstrating their equipment and processes both inside and outside the main building. Due to the number of presentations they were restricted to 20 minutes each. However, SHOC still managed to condense their presentation to provide a very interesting and thought provoking insight into the dangers of working near to overhead and underground services together with the requirements of the revised GS6 guidance. I would expect that, as a result of the presentation, SHOC will be contacted by many of the attending Local Authority and Utility organisations in the very near future for further advice and assistance.
